Sur La Table Cooking Classes review, pics, video and info. I took a cooking class at Sur La Table Somerset Collection Troy MI and brought my GoPro camera, my camera, and a friend. I had been looking forward to the class for some time and finally decided on the Sur La Table sushi class – How to Make Sushi.
OAKLAND COUNTY MOMS BUSINESS REVIEWS
My family and I love sushi but found our sushi habit to be quite expensive. So, I found some youtube videos that demonstrated how to roll sushi. I used those techniques for a while, but I still wasn't getting the full picture and felt that I wasn't making the sushi to the best of its potential.

My daughter bought me a gift certificate for a cooking class at Sur La Table at Somerset Mall in Troy, Michigan. I recently attended their How to Make Sushi cooking class, and was quite impressed. Just like the store itself, the cooking classes at Sur La Table are a top-notch production.
The How to Make Sushi cooking class at Sur La Table Somerset Collection in Troy is a hands-on class. The hands-on cooking classes are limited to 16 students, which is a nice small class size. You'll get the help you need. Most of the cooking classes run a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours. And, at the end, you get to indulge in all the great food you've prepared. We had a very good amount of sushi to eat!
Sur La Table Cooking Classes Video
The Sur La Table cooking classes focused on sushi-making tips from start to finish. We were taught the right way to make rice. The instructor also showed us some knife tips as we cut up the ingredients for our sushi rolls. We were given step-by-step instructions for preparing a vegetable hand roll, an inside out California roll, and a spicy tuna roll. It was instructed so effectively, it was difficult to mess up.
The instructor was very easy to hear since she used a mic. She eagerly invited students to move up to the front of the room to watch more closely. And, she stopped frequently and asked if anyone had any questions. She had no problem with me using my GoPro camera so I can remember all the materials when I got home.
I went to the Sur La Table How to Make Sushi cooking class with a friend. It was the perfect Girls Night Out event (even if in the middle of the day). We plan on doing these often since we had so much fun and left with an abundance of skills. I have since made sushi for my famiy and we loved it! A definite improvement.
Upon leaving the classes, students receive a coupon good for 10% off in-store purchases good only on the day of class. Plus, students receive a discount if they sign up for another cooking class.
The Sur la table website is great when looking for a cooking class. They have full calendars with each of the courses listed on their day(s). The descriptions are very detailed… you'll see a menu of what you're preparing, who the instructor is, and what to expect.
While this Sur La Table Cooking Classes review is solely focused on Sushi, I was informed by my fun classmates that they all function relatively the same way. I'm greatly looking forward to my next cooking class involving Mexican food. Stay tuned!
